Ukraine Passport

This passport was created as part of a project focusing on print design and cultural appropriation. I chose to make a passport for Ukraine due to it being my heritage, and also due to the political state that the country was at. The outer shell of the passport was made red to represent Russia blanketing over the country, only showing the Russian cyrillic for "Ukraine Passport", but as soon as it is removed a sprouted sunflower (Ukraine's national flower) on the back, and the Ukraine emblem and Ukrainian cyrillic appear. The passport is meant to bring pride to the holder for the country of Ukraine that has always had to fight for its independence.

I used a french folding method so that on the interior of each page the Ukraine national anthem could be seen in both Russian and Ukrainian cyrillic. As the pages go on, the red bold typeface of the Russian cyrillic begins to fade while the soft blue serif of the Ukrainian cyrillic begins to emerge and become louder.

Each page contains patterns that pay homage to Ukraine's past using traditional shapes and colors seen in decorations in fabrics and objects.
